Forestry Employment

The forest products industry in the Regional Muncipality of Wood Buffalo produces lumber and pulpwood. Sawmill and pulp mill operators also work with oil sands companies to cut and salvage timber before leases are developed.

Forest harvest activities; including logging, log hauling and reforestation, are contracted out by sawmill and pulp mills to owner operators. While forestry has drastically slowed down, companies are still hiring highly-skilled and dedicated workers in manufacturing, processing and maintenance in mills. Visit the employers websites to see what positions they have posted.

  • Pulpwood is hauled year round except during the spring thaw and fall freeze up.
  • Winter is the prime season for timber harvesting. Logs are milled locally or shipped to a southern sawmill.
